Up to 2008 the B-IWA Happy Hours were accompanied by a Poster Award (a prize of € 500 was awarded 3 times a year for scientific posters on topics related to water/environment, according to votes cast by the attendees of the HH). Since 2009 a new system of 'Masterclasses' is applied.

Poster or powerpoint presentation (of max.5 slides) on topics related to water and/or the environment can be submitted by anyone for display at the next B-IWA Happy Hours. A competition is organized for the best poster/ppt via a voting procedure amongst all attendees. The presentation time is maximum 5 minutes.

Voting system: each HH participant can award two posters with respectively 10 and 5 points. The winner is the poster with the highest total score, or the highest number of 10-point votes in case of a draw.

B-IWA and its sponsors award a prize of 500 Euro, which is intended to be used to present the selected work at an international scientific event. In this way, B-IWA aims to contribute to the international visibility of (young) Belgian scientists and their work. Poster winners are entitled to add the B-IWA logo to their poster. Poster winners are kindly requested to present a short summary of their international congress/workshop visit at a later date.
